CHRISTMAS TREE SALE
The Beachwood Volunteer Fire Company will begin holding its annual Christmas tree sale fundraiser on Tuesday, December 1st. Come down and support the fire company by purchasing your tree.
BREAKFAST WITH SANTA
The Beachwood Volunteer Fire Company will hold its annual all-you-can-eat Breakfast with Santa Claus on Sunday, December 6th from 8am to noon at the fire hall located at 745 Beachwood Boulevard. Tickets will be sold at the door and are $6; kids under 8 eat free.
Breakfast will include scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon, coffee, tea and orange juice. The ladies auxiliary will have holiday decorations, arts and crafts and baked goods for sale.

RECREATION COMMISSION
HERITAGE BLANKET
The Beachwood Recreation Commission has a couple dozen borough heritage blankets still available for sale in time for the holiday season. Available in navy and cranberry, the cost of each is $45.00 and can be purchased at the Beachwood Sewerage Authority, located at 1133 Beach Avenue. Make checks payable to Beachwood Recreation.
Anyone no longer in the area but wishing to purchase a blanket may email us at beachwoodhistoricalalliance@gmail.com. Please include your zip code so shipping cost can be calculated.
TREE LIGHTING AND SING-A-LONG
The annual borough tree lighting and sing-a-long, hosted by the Recreation Commission, will take place on Sunday December 6, 2009 at 7:00PM at Beachwood Borough Hall, 1600 Pinewald Road.
Come out and enjoy the evening with your family, friends and nieghbors as we kick off the holiday season. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served following the sing-a-long. Children can visit with Santa. Pictures with Santa will be available for $2.00 each.
TOYS FOR TOTS
The Beachwood Recreation Commission and the Marine Corps League have teamed up to bring the “Toys for Tots” program to Beachwood.
New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off in the lobby of Beachwood Borough Hall, 1600 Pinewald Road in Beachwood. Toys will be collected now until December 18th. All collected toys will be distributed to needy children within our community.
BEACHWOOD RECREATION ANNUAL HOUSE DECORATING CONTEST
All entries for the annual borough house decorating contest must be received at Beachwood Borough Hall, 1600 Pinewald Road by Wednesday, December 9, 2009.
Houses will be judged between December 11-13, 2009. Remember houses must be lit to be judged. Winners will be notified on Monday December 14, 2009. Prizes will be awarded at the Borough Council meeting on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 7:00PM.
BEACHWOOD RECREATION’S ANNUAL SNOWMAN CONTEST
Take photos of your snowman friend and send it to us at 1600 Pinewald Road Beachwood NJ 08722. Contest ends at 3pm sharp on March 10, 2010. Winners will be notifies and prizes will be given out at the Borough Council Meeting on Wednesday, March 17, 2010

ONE-ON-ONE COMPUTER CHATS
One-on-One sessions with a librarian covering your basic computer questions. Call the library to make an appointment, 732-244-4573.
EVENING OF SCRAPBOOKING
Come enjoy an evening of scrapbooking on Monday, December 7th at 7pm. Bring your favorite photos and instructor Lisa Brown will walk you through creating a terrific scrapbooking picture frame project that is a perfect holiday gift or just a treat for yourself. Ages 14 to adult. Please register.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY MEETING
The December meeting of the Friends of the Beachwood Library will be held on Tuesday, December 8th at 10am. New friends are always welcome.
BOOK DISCUSSION
On Friday, December 11th, at 10:30am, the Beachwood Library will be hosting a book discussion of Khaled Hosseini‘s 2007 best-selling novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns.
This heart-wrenching tale spans 30 years of tumultuous political changes in Afghanistan and the lives of two very different women born a generation apart.
Copies of the book are available at the branch.
Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol
The Friends of the Beachwood Library invite you to hearken back to the Victorian era with a one-hour reading of Charles Dickens’ beloved classic, A Christmas Carol, performed by the Traveling Literary Theater. These period-dressed actors bring all characters to life!
The performance will take place at the Beachwood Community Center, 147 Compass Avenue, in the borough. This program is free to the public and appropriate for ages 10 and up. Please register.

LIVE ANIMAL TALKS
Come in and meet the animals of Jakes Branch Park. Visitors will get an up close look at the park inhabitants and learn about each species. Jakes Branch Park Nature Center, Sunday, December 6th, 11-11:30am. All ages, free.
CROSSLEY VILLAGE NATURE WALK
Jakes Branch Park will be hosting a nature walk trip to Berkeley Township’s Crossley Village on Saturday, December 12th from 9am to 12pm. Pickup location is the Jakes Branch Park Nature Center Parking lot. Ages 9 and up, fee is $6 per person. Space limited to 12 people, register today!
LETTERS TO SANTA
Open to all Ocean County children. Write a letter to “Santa Claus, North Pole,” c/o Ocean County Parks and Recreation Department, 1198 Bandon Road, Toms River, N.J. 08753.
Be sure to print child’s first and last name, address, telephone number and date of birth on each letter mailed in. Letters must be received by December 8th. No school groups, please! Free of charge.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Unless otherwise stated, all programs require registration along with payment in full at time of registration. Anyone attending a program or trip, without registering in advance, must pay by check or money order (cash is unacceptable). Participants will only be permitted upon availability.
When a program/trip has been advertised in a previous newsletter we will accept enrollment prior to the registration date listed in this newsletter issue.
Registration for programs designated as “FREE” may be placed by calling Cattus Island County Park at 732-270-6960 on or after the registration date listed.
